Thurstaston Beach, Wirral

Oils on paper (2015)
21.1 x 29.9 cm (8¼" x 11¾") approx.

A painting made in preparation for a workshop, inspired by research into the working methods of John Constable. Made in oils on paper prepared with a gesso ground, the painting depicts the view from Thurstaston beach on the Wirral side of the Dee Estuary to the mouth of the river, encompassing a distant North Wales headland and Sally's Cottage on the Wirral shoreline. Painted from photographs taken in 2007 during preparation work for a commission from Wirral Borough Council, the results of which can be seen here: Thurstaston illustration.
